Canada Removes Vaccine Requirement

September 27, 2022

The random COVID-19 testing for travellers and vaccination requirements for foreign nationals entering Canada will come to an end on October 1, 2022. In an effort to safeguard Canada against Coronavirus (COVID-19), COVID-19, Canada implemented a mandatory self-isolation of 14-days to any person entering Canada by air, sea, or land, whether they were asymptomatic or exhibited signs and/or symptoms of COVID-19 under the Quarantine Act on March 26, 2020.

As reported by BNN Bloomberg on September 26, 2022, the federal government has mandated that “all COVID-19 entry restrictions will be removed, including testing, quarantine and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada” on October 1, 2022. Canada is one of the last countries to remove travel requirements following the U.S. and the U.K. This is the date the current COVID-19 Emergency Order-in-Council on border measures ends. Travellers on planes and trains will still require face masks.

In addition, CBC has reported that the ArriveCAN app, the app which travellers use to submit their vaccination status, customs declarations and travel plans, will become optional at the end of the month.

This is the opposite to the U.S., where currently, the CDC requirement is that non-U.S. citizen, non-U.S. immigrants must show proof of being fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine before boarding your flight to the U.S. In addition, as of April 18, 2022, CDC’s January 29, 2021 Order requiring masks on public transportation conveyances and at transportation hubs is no longer in effect. Therefore, CDC will not enforce the Order. CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time.
