ArriveCan Now Required to Enter Canada

As of November 21, 2020, all air travelers whose final destination is Canada must use the ArriveCAN mobile application when they are entering Canada. The app requires travelers to submit their travel and contact information, quarantine plan (unless they are quarantine exempt under the Mandatory Isolation Order), and COVID-19 symptom self-assessment before boarding their flight.

In addition, effective November 21, 2020, travelers who enter Canada by air, land, or marine modes, (unless they are quarantine exempt under the Mandatory Isolation Order), will also be required to confirm they have arrived at their place of quarantine or isolation within 48 hours of entering Canada and those in quarantine must complete a daily COVID-19 symptom self-assessment during their quarantine period. This information can be submitted through the ArriveCAN App, provided that it was used to submit their information before entering Canada, or by calling the 1-833-641-0343 toll-free number during their quarantine or isolation period.

The app allows travelers must provide their contact information to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in advance of entering Canada rather than taking additional time to provide the same information if requested by border officials.

Travelers must be ready to show their ArriveCAN receipt when seeking entry into Canada; a border services officer will verify that the information was submitted digitally. Failure to submit the required information digitally before boarding a flight could result in enforcement action, ranging from verbal warnings to a $1,000 fine.

There will be exceptions for those who are unable to submit documents electronically due to personal circumstances, such as a disability or inadequate infrastructure. Travelers entering Canada by land or marine modes are strongly encouraged to continue to use the ArriveCAN App prior to arrival.

Travelers who do not submit the mandatory information required after they have crossed the border will be considered a high priority for follow-up by law enforcement. The ArriveCAN app is available for download on Google Play for Android or through the App Store for iOS.

Travelers can also submit their information by signing in online
