On October 30th, 2020, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced their multi-year immigration plan for 2021, 2022, and 2023, which will promote the importance of filling labour shortages, family reunification, and refugee resettlement plans.

Although IRCC continued to accept and process applications throughout the pandemic, including Express Entry applications, they also recognize that the global travel restrictions led to a reduction in the number of immigrant admissions over the last few months. In order to bring targets back up and ensure that “Canada has the workers it needs to fill crucial labour market gaps and remain competitive on the world stage, the 2021 to 2023 levels plan aims to continue welcoming immigrants at a rate of about 1% of the population of Canada, including 401,000 permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022 and 421,000 in 2023. The previous plan set targets of 351,000 in 2021 and 361,000 in 2022”.

This is an increase of approximately 200,000 new immigrants for the next 3 years, making Canada one of the top destinations for immigrants.
