Federal Express Entry Draw – January 8, 2020

The first Federal Express Entry Draw of 2020 occurred on January 8, 2020, increasing the Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) to 473 to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). A total of 3400 applicants received an ITA. The last draw of the year conducted on December 19, 2019, had a cut-off score was 469 to receive an ITA; thereby increasing the overall score by 4 points to begin the New Year.

Interestingly enough, although the cut-off score was high to start the year, not all applicants with 473 CRS points received an ITA as there were multiple candidates with this score. In the event this occurs, a “tie-breaking rule” is applied and the “cut-off” score is based on the date and time an Express Entry profile is submitted. For this round of invitations only those who submitted their Express Entry profile prior to December 27, 2019 at 13:35:09 UTC were considered.

In 2019, the lowest CRS cut-off was 438, which occurred on January 30, 2019 and the highest CRS was 475 on October 30, 2019. Traditionally, cut-off scores have ranged in the 450’s, but when there are a high number of applicants in the Express Entry pool, IRCC is likely to increase the overall CRS cut-off score.
