How to Immigrate Through Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program
Guide to Obtaining Permanent Residency in Canada Through Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program: Step-by-step instructions on how to obtain permanent residency in Canada by way of Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program.
From 1967 until the pandemic began, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) was the leading immigration program for skilled workers in Canada. In July, Express Entry invitational rounds for FSWP candidates will resume following a temporary hiatus that’s been in place since December 2020. In addition, new applicants should benefit from the return of the processing standard after six months.
Candidates can apply for the FSWP even if they do not have any experience in Canada or a job offer.
As a program managed by the Express Entry System, people eligible for the FSWP receive a score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). IRCC announces Express Entry drawing invitations approximately every two weeks to invite the top-scoring candidates to apply for Canadian immigration.
Follow these steps for applying to the FSWP for Canadian immigration:
Step 1: The FSWP eligibility requirements must be met
A candidate must meet the minimum requirements for employment, language skills, and education to be eligible to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. A minimum of 67 points is also required under the program’s 100-point grid.
The minimum requirements are:
The experience must be in a career classification that falls under skill levels 0, A, or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in the last ten years;
Established proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking in English or French, equivalent to CLB 7; in one or more of these areas.
The report contains information on Canadian educational enrollment (diploma, certificate, or graduation) and foreign enrollment (educational credentials assessment, or ECA).
The six immigration selection factors of IRCC must be met by FSWP applicants at least 67 points. For each category, we have listed the maximum number of points a candidate can get.
In order to participate in the Express Entry pool, you must be eligible.
Step 2: Register on the IRCC website for Express Entry
You can create an IRCC account on the government website if you follow the instructions. In order to use the online tool, you must create an express entry profile, enter your personal reference code, if you have one, and supply your personal information.
Your Express Entry profile must be submitted within 60 days of creating it, or you will have to start over.
Your profile can be submitted once it has been completed, and the IRCC will determine the Express Entry program you are eligible for.
In the Express Entry Pool, IRCC will include you if you are eligible for the FSWP. Work experience, education, age and official language proficiency are all factors in determining your score.
Step 3: For more information about applying for a permanent residence permit (ITA)
You can’t be assured that you will be invited to apply for permanent residence simply by completing an express entry profile online. For a given Express Entry drawing, your score must be high enough to meet the minimum threshold.
IRCC will send you an ITA while you’re in the pool. A completed application must be submitted within 60 days of receiving one. Draws are conducted about every two weeks by the IRCC.
Step 4: Apply for immigration once you receive an ITA
The IRCC will contact you upon receiving your ITA to let you know which program you are invited to and what you need to do next. As part of Express Entry-Managed Programs, candidates are automatically invited to apply under the following programs: Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and then Federal Nominee Program (NNP).
When you apply for Express Entry, IRCC requests proof of the information you provide. Your application will be assessed to determine if the information in it differs from the information in your profile. You may be rejected if you provide false or incomplete information, or found unacceptable if you omit important details.
To ensure you are still eligible for the program you are invited to apply to, the IRCC recommends reviewing its eligibility criteria. Your score may need to be recalculated if your personal circumstances change. In the event that your new score reduces your CRS score below the minimum for your round of invitations, IRCC recommends declining the invitation.
If you refuse an invitation, your application will be returned to the Express Entry Pool by the candidates. If you retain your eligibility, you can be considered for future rounds of invitations. Your rejection will not impact future invitations. If you update your Express Entry profile or improve your CRS score, you can improve your chances of being invited to apply again.
IRCC will remove your profile from the pool if you fail to respond within 60 days to your ITA. Fill out a new Express Entry profile to be eligible for future drawings.
Immigrants’ Other Options
Another important immigration program is the PNP. Over the next three years, according to the immigration levels plan for 2022-2024, more than 80,000 PNP candidates will become permanent residents. Express Entry draws are still held every two weeks by IRCC for candidates in the PNP program.
Your application for a provincial nomination may be invited if you are already in the Express Entry pool. Once you receive the nomination, your score will increase by 600, allowing you to apply for immigration and become a PNP candidate.
There is also the PNP, which is important for immigration. Approximately 80,000 PNP candidates are expected to become permanent residents over the next three years, according to the immigration levels plan for 2022-2024. For candidates in the PNP program, IRCC still holds two-weekly Express Entry draws.
Applicants already in the Express Entry pool may be invited to apply for a provincial nomination. You may then apply for immigration and become a PNP candidate once you receive the nomination, which will increase your score by 600.
