What is P3 Visa

The P3 Visa is a U.S. non-immigrant visa designed for artists or entertainers (individually or as a group) who are coming to the United States to perform, teach, or coach in a culturally unique program. This visa is used for events that promote the understanding or development of an art form, tradition, or culture—such as folk music, ethnic dance, traditional crafts, or unique performance styles.

P3 Visa Requirements

To qualify for a P3 Visa:

  • The performer or group must be involved in a culturally unique program, which may include performance, teaching, or coaching.

  • The event must further the understanding or appreciation of the cultural art form.

  • The applicant must provide evidence of cultural uniqueness, including:

    • Written expert opinions

    • Media coverage

    • Historical or cultural documentation

  • A U.S. employer or sponsor must file the petition.

  • A consultation letter from an appropriate labor organization is often required.

P3 Visa Process

  • File Form I-129 with USCIS

    • A U.S. employer or sponsoring organization must file Form I-129, including:

      • Description of the cultural program

      • Evidence of the performer’s or group’s cultural background and uniqueness

      • Support letters from experts or community leaders

      • Itinerary of planned events or performances

  • USCIS Review and Approval

    • Upon approval, USCIS issues Form I-797 (Notice of Approval).

  • Visa Application at U.S. Embassy/Consulate

    • Applicant completes Form DS-160 and schedules a visa interview.

    • Required documents include:

      • Valid passport

      • DS-160 confirmation

      • USCIS approval notice

      • Supporting evidence of the cultural event

  • Visa Interview and Issuance

    • After the interview, the visa is processed and issued for travel to the U.S.

P3 Visa Processing Time

  • USCIS Petition Processing:

    • Standard: 2 to 6 months

    • Premium Processing: 15 calendar days (with additional fee)

  • Consular Processing:

    • Visa appointment and stamping typically take 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the U.S. embassy or consulate.

Total Processing Time: Usually 1 to 2 months with premium processing, or 3 to 6+ months with regular processing.
