A Family-Based Green Card allows certain relatives of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPRs) to obtain permanent residency in the United States. Eligibility falls into two main categories: Immediate Relatives and Family Preference Immigrants.
A Family-Based Green Card is available to:
- Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens (no visa limits):
- Spouses
- Unmarried children under 21
- Parents (if the U.S. citizen is at least 21)
- Family Preference Categories (subject to annual visa limits):
- F1: Unmarried adult children (21 or older) of U.S. citizens
- F2A: Spouses and minor children of lawful permanent residents (LPRs)
- F2B: Unmarried adult children (21 or older) of LPRs
- F3: Married children of U.S. citizens
- F4: Siblings of U.S. citizens (petitioner must be at least 21)
Each category has different wait times based on visa availability and the applicant’s country of origin.
